impact.com

Tool · this deep dive is built from the official pages of the platform itself and of the tools that support it.

Overview

impact.com is an affiliate platform, an intermediary between brands and publishers. The title of the homepage is "impact.com - The All-in-One Partnership Management Platform"; that is a self-description, not an independent assessment.

The main thing to understand about a platform of this kind before any talk of money: it has no rate of its own. impact.com does not pay you a percentage out of itself — it keeps the accounting, counts actions and transfers the money, while the terms are set by the brand with which you conclude a contract inside the platform. That is why the question "how much does impact pay" is incorrect; the correct question is "how are the payouts arranged here", and to that there are answers.

The deep dive is built around the conditions of work, not around publishing on social networks: the platform does not connect accounts and publishes nothing.

Who is admitted

Requirements for a participant could not be found on the open pages. On the page for publishers there is exactly one statement on this subject — the call "Join impact.com today – its free!". There are no requirements for the platform, nor for the audience, nor for the subject matter there.

One thing follows from the call: joining is free. Everything else — who will be taken, who will be refused, whether a site with traffic is needed — is unknown from the open sources. A list of the countries from which partners are accepted was not found on the pages for publishers either.

How you earn with it

The rate is set by the advertiser, not by the network. The help centre for partners says outright: "Your contract contains the finer details about when your commission is due to you" (how partners are paid). The platform has no rate of its own, and substituting any percentage whatsoever here is not permissible — it does not exist until you have signed a contract with a specific brand.

The payout threshold is 10 USD from below, and it can be raised. The wording of the help centre: the withdrawal happens when "your impact.com balance reaches $10 USD (or your currency equivalent)". A range is named in the same place: "This threshold can be as low as USD $10 or as high as USD $2,5m" (the order of payouts). That is, the lower boundary is set by the network — ten dollars — while the upper one the partner sets for himself. These are not two different thresholds but one adjustable one.

The network has no fixed date of payout. There are two ways: "Withdrawing once your balance hits a preset threshold or once you reach a fixed day in the month" — on reaching the threshold or on a chosen day of the month. But before the withdrawal the money must pass through an invoicing period, and that one is drawn out: "You can expect this period to stretch over 2-3 weeks". How much exactly will pass from the buyer's action to the money in the account depends on the brand.

There are two methods of payout: "a specified bank account or a PayPal account", the bank account specified or a PayPal account. No other methods are named on the help centre page that was read.

There are no requirements for disclosure of advertising on the open pages. That does not mean there are none at all: the /legal/ section of the site is closed by a Disallow rule in robots.txt and cannot be read from outside. From that follows something practical: obligations of labelling will most likely arise for you out of the contract with the brand and out of the legislation of your country, not out of an open page of the platform.

With the terms it is more complicated than one would wish. In the footer of the homepage stands a link to the general terms of use — the page answers and opens. A separate partner agreement is not on the open pages, and the general terms of use of the site and a partner contract are different documents.

What it will not do

It will not name a rate either now or later — not because it is hiding it, but because it is set by the brand in your contract. There is nothing on which to plan income before the contract is signed.

The lifetime of the click tag is not announced. It was looked for on impact.com/partners/, on the page for publishers and in the help centre for partners — nowhere is it named. How long after a click an action is counted to you is unknown from the open sources.

It does not publish requirements for participants or the geography of admission. The promise of "joining free" is no substitute for terms of admission.

It does not guarantee a date of payout. Two to three weeks for invoicing plus an order that depends on the brand — that is a declared uncertainty, not our own supposition.

It does not give requirements for disclosure of advertising on the open pages — and checking them without going around robots.txt is impossible, and go around it we will not.

There are no sections on cost, a free plan and limits in the deep dive. The sources we checked say nothing about paid plans for partners or about any limits of the platform.

Not one of these silences proves that the condition does not exist — only that it is not on the open pages.

Verified data

The checked data this deep dive rests on.

How the money works here

there is a review of the application: «impact.com will review your application within 2 business days»; «You'll receive a decision within 72 hours». The application statuses: «In Review — impact.com received your application and will review it for authenticity and compliance»; «Approved — impact.com found that all is in order with who you claim to be and your promotional channel ownership»; «Declined — Your partner account did not pass impact.com's compliance standards and your application was rejected»

whether the network is obliged to explain a refusal is not stated on the page; the refusal wording is general, about «compliance standards», with no breakdown of reasons. The robots.txt of help.impact.com allows everything (Allow: / in the User-agent: * group)
