باسلام (Basalam)

Platform · this deep dive is built from the official pages of the platform itself and of the tools that support it.

Overview

Basalam (باسلام, from the greeting «با سلام») is an Iranian marketplace built around the notion of the "ghorfe" (غرفه, "pavilion", "stall"). A seller here is called a "ghorfedar" (غرفه‌دار) — "stall keeper", and the platform is arranged as a row of such stalls rather than as an impersonal catalogue.

It describes itself as «باسلام — a boundless market for buying and selling», and its "about us" sections list four roles: buyers, ghorfedars, developers and the "Salam ecosystem". What sets it apart from most marketplaces in this guide is an open developer platform with its own app store: the Salam API, a developer panel and a payment gateway for stall owners.

Who's here

The wording on the "about us" page is qualitative, with no measurements: «millions of people from all over Iran» about buyers and «hundreds of thousands of businesses» about ghorfedars. These are the platform's statements about itself: it names neither a methodology nor a period.

The interface language is Persian (checked on 2026-07-28 at basalam.com); no other language versions are declared in the markup. The market is Iranian: settlements go through Iranian banking gateways. The age threshold is stated directly: the minimum age for an individual to create an account is a full 18 years.

Getting started

A stall is opened from the «ایجاد غرفه» ("create a stall") landing page; the platform promises that you can start trading in a few minutes. The terms define a ghorfedar as a person who creates a virtual space in Basalam to display their goods.

Next comes mandatory identity verification, and its consequence matters: settlements are made only with a ghorfedar who has passed identity verification. You can sell earlier, but you can only receive money after verification.

Delivery is on the seller: you configure the shipping methods and cost yourself, and the buyer pays for it at checkout; there is also synchronisation of goods with other platforms. The terms add the obligation to make sure before listing an item that it can be shipped safely: cancelling a transaction on the grounds of "postal restrictions" is not accepted.

What you can publish

The file types the platform accepts are visible in the documentation of the upload service: for a product — product.photo and product.video, for a profile — user.avatar and user.cover, for a stall — vendor.logo and vendor.cover, for messaging — photo, video, voice and file. So a stall has its own logo and cover: the storefront is designed, not just filled.

Responsibility for the listing matching the product lies entirely with the seller: all consequences of a discrepancy between the shipped item and the description and terms fall on the ghorfedar, and for unique items such as decorative stones they are obliged to send a photograph of the exact specimen being shipped before dispatch and to obtain the buyer's confirmation.

Prohibitions. A separate list of forbidden goods is placed in the help centre. From the terms themselves it is clear that: the sale of prohibited goods and services is not allowed and gives neither the seller nor the buyer any right to support; the sale of medicines and claims of treatment without authorisation from the Food and Drug Organization are forbidden; a stall is used only to sell the goods that are listed in it.

How to grow

The platform's own advertising system is called "Tuye Cheshm" (توی چشم — "in plain sight") and is described in the terms as the main place for ordering and managing advertising; an affiliate programme is mentioned there too.

What the platform names as sources of growth: sale in instalments and on credit, a money-back guarantee from Basalam, free television promotion and direct messaging with the buyer — these are statements about its own advantages, not measured indicators. A separate mechanism is apps: some promotion and analytics tools come from third-party developers through the app store.

A stall rating exists and drops for violations: cancelling an order because shipping data was not registered on time may entail restrictions and a reduction of the stall's points.

Path to monetization

Commission

Basalam takes a percentage of the sale, and the rates are published by category: food — from 4% to 9%; cosmetics and hygiene — from 5% to 13%; home and kitchen — from 2% to 14%; fashion and clothing — 14%; digital goods — from 2% to 11%; sport and travel — from 6.5% to 15%; health, treatment and beauty — from 6.5% to 15%; crafts — 10%; culture, education and entertainment — from 7% to 12%; business services — 7%; gold and silver — from 2% to 10%; tools and automotive equipment — from 5% to 8%. The platform explains the spread by the different margins of the categories.

The formula is written down in the terms: the ghorfedar's net share is the price of the goods minus Basalam's share plus the cost of delivery; if the category is chosen incorrectly the platform corrects the commission and puts the difference through the stall's balance, and the commission itself is charged on all orders confirmed by the seller except those cancelled by the buyer.

Payouts

The buyer's money is held by the platform until settlement: the sum stays with Basalam as a deposit, and the platform, acting under a power of attorney, withholds the commission and pays the remainder to the seller.

The two official pages diverge here; both numbers follow. The landing page promises: once the order has reached the buyer intact and has been completed to their satisfaction, settlement takes at most 5 working days. The terms describe a longer procedure: a settlement request can be submitted only after the buyer confirms satisfaction, or at most 7 days after the order is received; after the request the sum is transferred to the account within up to 15 days. Plan your working capital by the second deadline — it is longer and it is written into the contract. From the same source: support will consider a return or a problem only if it is reported within seven working days after delivery; after that the order is closed automatically.

Tools and automation

Basalam has an official API — the "Salam API". The developer portal describes it as a single API Gateway, an SDK and an MCP server for connecting services to AI agents and development environments.

There are three authorisation methods: a Personal Access Token for a single stall's script, the Authorization Code Flow for a public application and the Client Credentials Flow for system exchange with financial services; official SDKs exist for Python and PHP.

The services are split by domain: user, stall and product (core), wallet, order, order tracking, search, file upload, messaging and webhooks. Permissions are requested pointwise — for example, vendor.product.write to edit a product with photos, vendor.parcel.write to confirm an order, ship it and process a return, vendor.profile.read for the stall's data together with bank details. For those who do not write code there is a node for n8n.

Limits and rules

Who it's for

It suits Iranian craftspeople and small producers: the commissions for crafts and food are at the lower end of the range, the storefront is designed as a separate stall, and messaging with the buyer is built into the platform. It suits sellers with an inventory system: an API with SDKs, webhooks and an n8n node lets you avoid maintaining the catalogue by hand. It suits developers as a market for stall apps.

It does not suit you if you need fast money after a sale: the contractual settlement period is up to 15 days after a request that can be submitted no earlier than the buyer's confirmation or seven days after delivery. It does not suit clothing sellers with thin margins: the rate in the fashion and clothing category is 14%. And it does not suit those who expect to trade from outside Iran: verification, banking settlements and the legal framework are tied to the country.
