What metrics a platform gives you — and which it gives nobody

An analytics tool is chosen from a feature list, and then you hit something else: the platform does not give out the figure at all. Not to the tool, not to you. The tool is not at fault and cannot fix it — but you find this out after you have paid.

So what comes first here is not the list of what exists but the list of what nobody has. It is shorter and more useful.

All of it comes from the platforms' own documentation, with a link to the document. Analytics tools' claims about what they can do are not included here: those are the tools' claims, and they are collected separately.

What it gives nobody

Direct caveats from the documentation: thresholds, withdrawn metrics, availability windows. This is what no tool can get around.

Instagram. A threshold on the number of followers: "Some metrics are not available on Instagram accounts with fewer than 100 followers"; "follower_count and online_followers metrics are not available on Instagram business or creator accounts with fewer than 100 followers" source, checked 2026-08-05

Instagram. The impressions metric has been withdrawn: "deprecated for v22.0 and will be deprecated for all versions on April 21, 2025". For posts created on 2 July 2024 and later, a request for impressions after 21 April 2025 returns an error; the replacement is the views metric source, checked 2026-08-05

Telegram. About the channel statistics method it is said directly, "Only users can use this method"; a call on a supergroup gives the error BROADCAST_REQUIRED — "This method can only be called on a channel", and without rights — CHAT_ADMIN_REQUIRED, "You must be an admin in this chat to do this" source, checked 2026-08-05

A threshold on the number of followers: "Some metrics are not available on Instagram accounts with fewer than 100 followers"; "follower_count and online_followers metrics are not available on Instagram business or creator accounts with fewer than 100 followers" a directly named threshold is a rare case; usually platforms keep the threshold hidden source, checked 2026-08-05

Metrics for an individual post: engagement, impressions, reach, comments, likes, views, and also total_comments, total_likes, total_views — the last three are "only available for Instagram API with Facebook Login" some of the metrics are given only with one of the two login methods — that is already a tie to the means of access rather than to the account type source, checked 2026-08-05

What it gives nobody. The list of Display API fields contains neither viewer demographics, nor retention, nor the sources of impressions, nor the number of unique viewers — only like_count, comment_count, share_count, view_count the conclusion is drawn from the complete documented list of fields; the platform publishes no separate stipulation that "these metrics are unavailable" source, checked 2026-08-05

What it gives nobody. There is no API access to the statistics of one's own channel — views, viewers, subscriptions, stream time — in the Twitch API reference: the Analytics section contains only reports on extensions and on games the conclusion is drawn from the complete list of methods in the reference; Twitch publishes no separate stipulation that channel statistics are unavailable through the API. This is exactly the case… source, checked 2026-08-05

What it gives nobody. The threshold for a game report is named as a number: "a report is available only if the game was broadcast for at least 300 minutes (5 hours) over the time period covered by the report" fewer than five hours of broadcast over the period and there is no report at all source, checked 2026-08-05

What it gives nobody. "Clips data is available via the Get Videos API endpoint" — the game reports contain no data about clips; "New data fields may be added in new versions of the report" the composition of the report is not fixed and may change from version to version source, checked 2026-08-05

Who can access analytics at all. A game report requires the developer to "have registered an organization and claimed their game via the Twitch Developer Console"; reports on extensions require the access of the extension's developer. What follows from this

  1. Check the threshold, not the feature. «Analytics exist» and «you have analytics» are different statements. On some platforms the metrics are closed to communities and accounts below a certain size, and the threshold is given as a number.
  2. Year-on-year comparison is possible almost nowhere. The commonest window is thirty to ninety days. If you need history, export it yourself and in advance: nobody can reconstruct it later.
  3. An empty answer and a zero are different things. Some platforms return emptiness when there is no data, and tools draw a zero in its place. A dip in the chart may mean «no data», not «there were no views».
  4. If the platform does not have a metric, no tool has it either. A tool promising to show what the platform does not give out is a reason to ask where the figure comes from.

On method. Only the platforms' own documentation: help for creators, API documentation, dashboard pages. Analytics tools' claims about their own capabilities are not included here.
