Gab
Platform · this deep dive is built from the official pages of the platform itself and of the tools that support it.
Overview
Gab is an American microblog with a feed, groups, chat, a marketplace and a video section. On its About page the platform describes itself as "a social network that champions free speech, individual liberty and the free flow of information online". That is its own wording, not an outside assessment.
The operator is named in the footer of the help centre — Gab AI Inc. The same place lists the company's products: Gab Social (the feed itself), the mobile app, the Dissenter browser, Gab Chat, Gab Trends, Gab News, Gab Voice, Gab Marketplace and the Gab App Store.
Who's here
The platform does not publish audience size, countries or languages in its open help materials. The home page interface language is English.
An indirect geographic clue comes from how payment works: the subscription article says that "credit/debit cards are accepted for most countries", and that E-Check in the US, a cheque or money order in US dollars, and Bitcoin are also available. That points to a US payments anchor.
Getting started
Signup is ordinary — through a form on the site, with no invitation required. Verification is not granted automatically: according to the description of the paid tier, a Gab Pro subscriber gets the ability to "apply for account verification with a blue checkmark". So the checkmark is tied to paid status as a condition for applying.
Business presence is also tied to the subscription: the same place lists access to Gab Marketplace and business account features. A free account can post 3 marketplace listings a week, a subscriber 15.
Subscribing does not happen inside the app itself: the help article gives the address pro.gab.com and notes that cancelling a recurring payment is done there too — in the transaction history you need to "scroll the row to the right to find the cancel option".
What you can publish
The length limit depends on your status. According to the list of Gab Pro features, post length is "15K vs 5K for non-Pro" — that is, 5,000 characters on a free account and 15,000 on a paid one. For a microblog that is a lot: texts that other networks would force you to cut into threads fit here in one piece.
Upload volume differs the same way: up to 250 MB per day for subscribers versus 50 MB for everyone else (same source). The paid tier adds text formatting and post scheduling.
What is prohibited is set out in the moderation article: "direct threats, pornography, doxxing, fedposting, abuse of the service, spam or illegal posts" count as violations of the terms. The standard the platform follows is stated in the same place: it "follows the law as defined by the US Supreme Court and the First Amendment", noting that "some speech is illegal and will not be tolerated".
How to grow
The platform's promotion tools are tied to the paid tier. The Gab Pro list names: a post view counter, placement of material in the Pro Feed (which the platform describes as a higher-visibility channel), post scheduling, creating and running up to 100 groups, customisable feeds and lists, the multi-column Gab Deck interface with up to 8 columns, cross-posting to Telegram, and an RSS feed for a blog or website. A free account gets none of these tools.
There is advertising on the platform: the subscription lets you "remove advertising/sponsored posts from feeds" — which means everyone else sees them. No ad account is described in the open help materials: the "Gab Ads" section is mentioned in the FAQ as a list item, without terms or prices. Analytics is named only in general terms: the subscription page lists "analytics, verification, ad-free feeds, scheduling and more" without disclosing which metrics are included.
Path to monetization
Gab has no creator payout programme for content in its open help materials. Neither the FAQ nor the subscription articles describe a partner programme, a share of advertising or a creator fund.
The money flows the other way here: the user pays. The subscription page lists three options — "$9.99 a month", "$99.00 one-time payment" for a year (shown alongside a struck-through price of $180.00) and "Lifetime Patriot" for "$499.00 one-time payment". Payment methods: card, E-Check, Bitcoin and a cheque by post; the company's own GabPay processing is mentioned separately.
Note that the help article gives no prices at all, while third-party reviews name different sums.
For sellers there is Gab Marketplace, with a listing limit that depends on the subscription (3 a week without Pro, 15 with it). Commission terms and seller payouts are not described in the open help materials.
Tools and automation
The help centre has no developer section, and no separate subdomain describing API methods is named on the official pages.
Two pieces of built-in automation are confirmed, both in the Gab Pro list: post scheduling and cross-posting to Telegram, plus an RSS feed for pulling in posts from a blog or website.
Limits and rules
The platform publishes its technical limits in detail — in the limits article. Follows: "maximum follow limit of 10,000 for non-GabPRO", "no more than 500 accounts per day", "maximum 100 accounts per hour"; unfollows — "no more than 50 accounts per day" and "maximum 10 per hour". Posts: "no more than 1,500 gabs per day", "250 per hour; 100 per half hour; 10 per minute" and "no more than 8 account mentions in a single status". Likes — "maximum 120 statuses per half hour". Chat: "no more than 800 messages per day", with the number of new conversations per week depending on subscription tier (from 40 to 200).
On the legal side the position is stated plainly: "we readily hand over the data of lawbreakers to law enforcement on a subpoena" (the moderation article). The same article describes the complaints procedure: a three-dot button notifies moderators, and group administrators moderate their own communities.
Who it's for
Gab is worth considering if your audience is already here and you need long text posts: 5,000 characters without paying and 15,000 with a subscription is a rare allowance for microblogs. Groups (up to 100 for a subscriber) and the marketplace are useful.
It will not suit you if you are counting on income from the platform: there are no creator payout programmes. Nor will it suit anyone who needs automation through an API: the only native tools are the scheduler, RSS and cross-posting to Telegram. The interface is declared in English only.
