Overview
Descript is a tool for working with recorded and imported media. You can understand this from what the tool measures by: the unit of its limit is the media minute, the unit of quality at the output is the export resolution, and the integrations section leads to podcast hosts and video platforms (pricing page, integrations page).
On the site there is a machine-readable index llms.txt — a file that the tool keeps specially for reading by programs. On the date of the check it occupied 6,325 characters.
The interface language of the homepage is English. The site does not declare hreflang and contains no language switcher.
Which platforms it works with
The "Publishing" section on the integrations page lists eighteen destinations for publishing: Wistia, Coursera, Google Drive, Blubrry, Buzzprout, Captivate, Castos, eWebinar, Headliner, Hello Audio, Podbean, Podcast.co, Restream, Transistor, VideoAsk, Youtube (spelling as on the page), Slack, HubSpot.
The composition of the list says more than its length. Of the social platforms in our catalogue there is only YouTube here; everything else is podcast hosts, webinar tools, storage and working instruments. Publishing finished material straight to social networks this tool does not offer.
Two different sections of the same page are worth separating out. "Edit in Descript" (Ecamm, Restream, SquadCast, Captivate, Zoom) and "Timeline export" are not publishing platforms but inputs and outputs for material.
Pricing
The pricing is per user per month. There are five plans (pricing page): Free — 0, Hobbyist — 16, Creator — 24, Business — 50 USD per user per month, Enterprise — on request.
The minimum paid price, therefore, is 16 USD per user per month (the Hobbyist plan).
What is free
There is a free plan, and its boundaries are named (pricing page): 60 minutes of media a month, 100 one-off credits for AI features, export at 720p, 5 GB of storage.
Note the word "one-off" as applied to the credits: the hundred are issued once, and are not credited every month — that is how it is recorded in the source. The minutes, unlike the credits, are monthly.
Restrictions
The main restriction here is not in the number but in what that number is tied to. The limit is counted in media minutes per editor: the minutes of imported or recorded material are included in the plan for each editor separately (pricing page). The unit of the limit is not an account and not a workspace but a person. This also explains the per-user payment model: by adding a person, you add both their minutes and their price.
On the free plan the bounds are these: 60 minutes of media a month, 5 GB of storage, export limited to a resolution of 720p, AI credits — 100 and one-off.
How you earn with it
The programme is announced: the Descript Affiliate Program, the dashboard on PartnerStack (programme page). The programme has been moved to PartnerStack, and former participants need to apply anew — this is stipulated on the page itself.
The rate is 25 USD for each new subscriber brought in by the partner. The sum is one-off: payment goes for each new subscriber, no recurring payouts are announced. There are no limits on the number brought in.
There is no payout threshold — "No minimums", they pay for every subscriber brought in. The payouts are automatic, monthly, to PayPal: "Payments will be automatically dispersed to your PayPal every month".
Participation is free, there are no minimum sales requirements. The application asks about your main platform, your audience and your method of promotion; consideration takes about a week, admission goes through PartnerStack.
What it will not do
Publishing to social networks directly the tool does not undertake: in the publishing section, of the social platforms there is only YouTube.
The free plan will not give quality above 720p and will not let you past 60 minutes of media a month and 5 GB of storage. The AI credits on it run out for good: the hundred are issued once.
There is no documentation for the programming interface at the usual address: the domain docs.descript.com does not resolve in DNS. This does not mean that the API does not exist — it means that at the expected address its description does not lie, and it should be looked for through links from the main site.
The affiliate programme's terms are mentioned on its page with the reference "Program terms & conditions are still available to you", but a link to the text itself is not given.
