Chingari
Platform · this deep dive is built from the official pages of the platform itself and of the tools that support it.
Overview
Chingari (चिंगारी, "Chingári" — "spark" in Hindi) is an Indian platform that began as a short-video app and today sells itself as a service for live streaming and paid conversation. The change of direction is visible right in the app names: on Google Play it is called "Chingari — Live & Audio Room", on the App Store — "Chingari: Live conversations".
The platform describes its feature set like this: live streams with virtual gifts; "PK battles" — creator-versus-creator contests on air with points awarded for viewer gifts; audio rooms; chat; community rooms; a contest league; tasks and rewards; direct messages to creators. A separate format is paid one-on-one conversation: the app promises "monetization through one-on-one calls with your audience".
For SMM this means: Chingari today is not a platform for distributing clips but one for a host to earn directly from viewer gifts. The operator is Tech4Billion Media Private Limited.
Who's here
The audience figures come from the app stores — these are their data, not statements by Chingari.
On the verification date Google Play showed the app with a rating of 4,2, 6,66 lakh reviews (666 thousand), more than 10 crore downloads (more than 100 million) and a USK 18+ age marker; the last update there is dated 21 July 2026. The App Store data are more modest: version 5.4.5, released 21 July 2026, an average rating of 4,27 across 3532 ratings, age rating 17+.
Geography and languages. The iOS app declares support for fifteen languages: Arabic, Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu, while the Google Play description promises an audience "in 20+ Indian languages". The core is India: all the legal documents are written under Indian law, and disputes are assigned to the courts of Bangalore.
Getting started
You can sign in to the app in several ways: the live-streaming rules describe registration by phone number, through a Google account or Truecaller.
The age threshold named in the live-streaming rules and in the community guidelines is the same: "you confirm that you are at least 13 years old (or that you are represented by a parent or legal guardian)" and "all users must be at least 13 years of age". Note the discrepancy with the stores: Google Play marks the app 18+, the App Store — 17+.
To go live, ordinary registration is not enough. The requirements are stated directly: "you must have at least 1000 followers; you must have a verified Chingari account; you must use a device running Android 6.0 or above or iOS 10.0 or above". This is the only numeric access threshold the platform publishes.
Next comes setting up the room: you need to specify a title, a category and a cover image, and fill in the profile form; after setup you get access to beauty filters, camera switching, muting and settings.
What you can publish
The main formats are the live stream, the audio room, chat and direct messages; in its privacy documents the platform describes itself as a service providing "image hosting, video hosting and other services".
The technical limits of a stream are stated: a session lasts up to 60 minutes; a room can hold from one to four participants at a time; the host can invite people, appoint moderators and remove users; the room link can be shared via Telegram, WhatsApp, Messenger and other platforms.
Rights to music and video used on air are the host's responsibility: "you represent that you hold all necessary licences and rights to any material used in your stream (including music, video and other protected works); use of unlicensed material may lead to suspension or termination of your account". Separately, streaming is banned in restricted venues — at concerts, sporting events and in private premises without the relevant permissions.
The list of prohibited content in the community guidelines is detailed and includes, among other things: calls to violence and discrimination on the grounds of nationality, race, region, religion, caste, disability, age, sex, gender identity and political views; material on self-harm; pornography and any nudity, including digitally generated; anything involving minors in a sexual context; terrorism and organised crime; drugs; fraud and pyramid schemes; disclosure of personal data — phone numbers, addresses, bank details, Aadhaar and PAN numbers.
Engagement farming and trading in activity are covered separately: "do not spam, artificially inflate or harvest likes, shares, comments or followers… making or receiving payments, monetary or otherwise, in exchange for views, likes, shares, comments or followers is prohibited". The platform also bans making or accepting any payments between users inside Chingari — meaning settlements must go only through its own gifting mechanism.
How to grow
On the visibility of streams it says little: "live streams are shown every few feed posts; users can search for active rooms by category or by room name".
The platform describes its competitive mechanics as a way to rise in distribution: PK battles let you "earn points for gifts and audience engagement, climb the leaderboards and get a noticeable boost in visibility". There is also a contest layer — the "Chingari Champions League" with contests and challenges.
Paid promotion inside the platform exists, but with a formality: "users must notify the platform before taking part in any paid promotion", while false and misleading claims and the promotion of illegal and restricted goods and services are prohibited, and compliance with ASCI (Advertising Standards Council of India) requirements is mandatory. In addition, creators can promote their services or brands using "diamonds" from their wallet.
There is no ad manager for external advertisers on the public pages; at the same time Google Play marks the app as containing ads and in-app purchases.
Path to monetization
Chingari has a single monetization scheme, and it is tied to viewer gifts. The app puts it like this: "go live, receive gifts, earn beans and exchange them for rewards". The live-streaming rules describe the same mechanic through a different currency: "users can send each other virtual gifts (diamonds) during streams".
The second source is paid conversation: the app promises monetization through one-on-one calls and private text messages with your favourite creators.
What is known about money flowing the other way — refunds: "Chingari does not refund money for purchases on the platform; however, if there is a genuine problem you may contact support within 7 days of the purchase… if Chingari agrees that the purchase was made inadvertently, the payment may be refunded". For subscriptions the terms are the usual ones: cancel at any time, access is retained until the end of the paid period, and there is no refund for the unused part of the period.
Tools and automation
Chingari's public pages have no developer section and no public API. The site chingari.io is assembled entirely by script — read without a browser it returns only a message about the need to enable JavaScript — and only the legal pages are served as ready-made text.
The only "tool" the platform describes is sharing the stream link manually via Telegram, WhatsApp and Messenger.
The platform does publish official contacts for resolving issues: the phone number +91 80 3777 7000 and the support address [email protected], as well as officers for grievances, compliance and liaison with law enforcement — under the Information Technology Rules (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) 2021.

- Data. Google Play states that the app may share personal data, app information and device identifiers with third parties, and that the data are not encrypted.
Who it's for
It suits live-stream hosts aimed at an Indian audience and speaking Indian languages: the platform is built around streams, gifts and contests, and its mechanics (PK battles, the league, tasks) are designed for exactly that format.
It suits those ready to work "on camera" daily: income here is generated by viewers in the moment, not by an accumulated library of clips.
It is not suitable for distributing finished video: the platform has changed direction, and its current descriptions talk about streams and conversation, not a feed of clips. It is not suitable if you want to calculate your income in advance: the gift conversion rate, the platform's cut and the payout procedure are not published on the public pages. It is not suitable if you need automation: the platform has neither a public API nor third-party tools with confirmed support. And it is not suitable for projects that need legal proximity: disputes are heard by arbitration in Bangalore under Indian law.
