Chatwoot
Tool · this deep dive is built from the official pages of the platform itself and of the tools that support it.
Overview
Chatwoot is a customer support platform that brings correspondence from different channels together into a shared inbox. Social networks here are sources of incoming messages, not a place to publish.
This is how the tool describes itself: "Chatwoot is an AI-powered, open-source customer support platform. Self-host on your infrastructure or use our cloud to manage conversations across live chat, email, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, and more. Built-in AI assistant helps agents respond faster. A modern, privacy-focused alternative to In…" (homepage). The quotation breaks off in the middle of a word — that is how it was taken from the page, and we shall not finish it off. This is a self-description: the tool's own claim about itself, not an independent assessment.
Two properties from that phrase are worth singling out, because they determine everything else. The first: there are two ways of using it — your own deployment ("self-host on your infrastructure") and the tool's cloud. The second: the tool calls itself open source. The terms and the cost of neither option do the sources we checked report.
The interface language of the homepage is English; the hreflang markup declares three versions: en, es and pt-br (homepage).
The site is prepared for reading by programs: there is a machine-readable index llms.txt of 19,992 characters. The length is our own measurement on the date of the check, not the tool's own claim.
Which platforms it works with
The "Channels & Inbox" section on the features page names twelve channels: Website Live Chat, Email, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram DMs, TikTok, X (Twitter), Telegram, LINE, SMS, Voice, Shared Inbox.
Social networks and messengers proper number eight of these; the rest are chat on a website, email, SMS, voice and a shared inbox, that is, channels of another kind.
One entry in the list is declared as not yet ready: next to X (Twitter) on the page stands the mark "X DMs & Mentions (Coming Soon)". That is, support is announced as being prepared, not as operating, and counting on it today is not possible. Dates the tool does not name.
Note the character of the work with Instagram and Facebook: the list has "Instagram DMs" and "Facebook Messenger" — private messages, not comments and not posts. What exactly is available in TikTok the page does not specify.
How you earn with it
An affiliate programme is announced — the Chatwoot Affiliate Program (programme page). The "Affiliates" link stands in the footer of the homepage; the addresses /affiliate, /partners and /referral answer with code 404, so there is only one working page.
The commission is 20 % of the revenue over the first twelve months. The customer brought in is given 5 % off the subscription at the same time, that is, there is an offer on both sides. There is no limit on the number of referrals.
The payouts are recurring: monthly over the first twelve months of the customer's subscription. After the twelfth month the accruals stop.
A click tag does not exist in this programme at all: the accounting runs by a personal coupon, not by a link. A lifetime of the tag in such a scheme simply does not exist.
Participation is free. The programme is addressed to content creators, agencies and consultants, technical communities and review platforms.
The most important restriction of the programme is named outright: it extends only to Chatwoot Cloud subscriptions. Promoting the option with your own deployment is not allowed — for that they do not pay.
What it will not do
Working with private messages in X will not succeed today: the channel is marked on the features page as "Coming Soon". That is the tool's own reservation, not our observation.
Earning on your own deployment of Chatwoot is not possible: the affiliate programme covers the cloud only, and promoting the self-hosted option is forbidden by its terms.
From what threshold and by what means they pay under the programme is unknown: a threshold is not named, specific payout methods are not named — it is said only that the commissions are counted monthly and paid out on the programme's schedule. A separate terms page for the programme the tool does not have, and reading the rules in full from the outside before joining will not work.
Publishing posts and running feeds Chatwoot is not intended for: all the confirmed channels are incoming messages and enquiries. The cost of the cloud plans and the terms of free use the sources we checked do not name, even though the tool does call itself open source — which is why this deep dive has no sections on pricing, on free access or on restrictions.
