Bitly
Tool · this deep dive is built from the official pages of the platform itself and of the tools that support it.
Overview
Bitly is a link shortener that has grown into a set of tools around the link. This is how it describes itself: "Bitly's Connections Platform is more than a free URL shortener, with robust link management software, advanced QR Code features, and a landing page solution" (homepage). That self-description is the tool's own claim about itself, not an independent assessment.
Four things are named: shortening links, managing them, QR codes and landing pages. The epithets "robust" and "advanced" belong to the tool, and there is no confirmation of them in the sources we checked.
A programming interface is confirmed: the homepage has a link to the developer documentation, the page opens and contains the marks of documentation. This was checked by opening the address, not deduced from the word "dev" in the link. What is available through the interface is not described by the sources we checked.
The interface language of the homepage is en-US; the hreflang markup declares the versions de, en, es, fr, hi, it, pt, pt-br, ta, th (homepage).
Which platforms it works with
There is no list of supported social platforms, and this is established, not assumed.
The integrations page and the catalogue https://bitly.com/pages/marketplace — 65 entries — were opened. The catalogue lists third-party tools: Salesforce, WordPress, HubSpot, Shopify, Sprout Social, Agorapulse, ApiX-Drive and others. There is no list of social platforms among them.
The reason is clear from the nature of the product: a shortener works with the link, not with an account on a platform. It has nothing to "support" in the sense in which a scheduler does.
Hence the practical consequence: the presence of Bitly in the integration catalogues of schedulers means that they can insert its links, not that Bitly can work with the platforms.
How you earn with it
An affiliate programme is not announced (partners page).
The Bitly Partner Program does exist, but it is about something else: integrations, joint marketing and certification. No commission for a referred customer is announced on it, and there are no rates.
There is a trap here that is easy to fall into during an automated check, and it is worth naming directly. Short addresses of the form bitly.com/affiliate and bitly.com/partners answer with code 200 — but these are user short links, not pages of the site: the shortener's domain hands out such names to its own users. An address that answers proves nothing here. The real partners page lies at /pages/partners.
Addresses of the form /*/partner-agreement are closed off in robots.txt and were not read.
What it will not do
Bitly does not run social networks and does not publish a list of supported platforms: there is none either on the integrations page or in the catalogue of 65 entries.
The tool does not offer to pay for referred customers: the partner programme is devoted to integrations and certification, not to a commission. The terms of the partner agreement cannot be read from the outside — they are closed off in robots.txt.
The sources we checked name no prices: this deep dive therefore has no section on pricing. The words "more than a free URL shortener" from the homepage description set no boundaries for the free tier — how many links, clicks or QR codes are available without paying is unknown from what we checked, and there is no separate section on the free tier here for the same reason.
The tool declares no limits on its work — daily, monthly or otherwise — in the sources we checked.

API access
the home page has a link to developer documentation: https://dev.bitly.com/ — the page opens and contains signs of documentation
CORRECTED the previous version declared any address containing the word api or dev found on the home page to be a developer section. All 57 such records were checked by opening the address: 24 turned out to be documentation. See data/technical/dev-links-verified.tsv and docs/research/S195-догадка-по-адресу.md
